Before I left, many friends and colleagues were most surprised that I'd be living out of a backpack for 6 months. My colleague Nancy nearly fell off her chair when she heard about it and I still laugh when I think of her reaction. So far, not too bad...I am no fashion icon but to be honest, I don't care as much as I would if I were at home. We seem to be living from the tops of our packs, particularly with short stays or small hotel rooms. Recycling the same stuff over and over again. Laundry is easy and cheap...hotels will do it for $1-2 USD per kg. it comes back smelling nice and folded although many food stains or whatever aren't really removed which I am guessing is from either not using good quality detergent or hot water. Nevertheless, they don't smell. That is our bar. Imagine 95% of our contents will be donated or thrown out at the end of this adventure!
Weighed our packs today. Craig's was 17kg, mine was 12kg, Robins was 10kg and Abby's was 9kg. Not too bad considering we are lugging around medical kit, toiletries etc.
I do not wear make up. I have not used a hair dryer in about 3 weeks. We've had one in every hotel but I can't be bothered. Easier to put it up and go. I can get ready in about 6 minutes. That's not to say I don't "need" make up because I do...I'm 43 not 23, but whatever. Even the kids are used to me now. Lol.
I'm not walking as much as I had thought...Japan and Hong Kong had a ton of walking every day but we've had a few long travel days in a car, train or plane, combined with the intense heat as slowed down the pace. Nowhere really to do any strength training so feeling a bit wimpy at the moment, but some good trekking and walking coming up I think.
Lots of exciting things happening on the Homefront.
Another baby born on my Deloitte team. Congrats to Rachel who had a baby girl, Lea two days ago.
Ross and Jill celebrated 20 years of marriage yesterday. Time flies! Congrats to them.
It's my dad's birthday today. June 17th. We've had lots of good fun talking about Papa and his travel adventures and our visits with him in Barbados. He has passed down his love for travel to his 3 kids and two grandkids for sure! Happy birthday Papa! Every time someone had pho Bo ( beef noodle soup) there would be a Papa reference.
One of the biggest adventures we have planned on is trip is The Gibbon Experience which is coming up in a few days. I googled reviews and photos the other day which have occupied my thoughts. Excited and scared $&@?less!? As my oldest friend Jill told me yesterday "you are not very brave". Lol. Brave enough not to wear make up though aren't I?! Lol. Making myself laugh this morning.
Mostly delightful family interactions considering we are attached at the hip 24/7 with a few doses of unwelcome hormones and attitude. Craig a little under the weather at the moment but seems to be on the mend. Hoping the rest of us don't catch his cold.
That's it from me.
