Happy birthday Kristine and other random thoughts!

Craig and the kids have gone to see a movie in Hue. Jurassic World which apparently opened today. Craig thinks just for them. While I don't have Probir to commiserate with, truth be told, an evening to myself is welcome. The room we have is on the small side so showering in peace a luxury today. We also bailed on Vietnamese fare tonight and went for some pizza and the restaurant gave us 2 free glasses of locally made wine (from Dalat) which have gone down nicely thank you very much...

First thought of the day is a happy birthday hug to my soon to be sister-in-law Kris! So lucky to have you in our family.

Second thought of the day is about the dogs in Vietnam. They are everywhere. Which one hand is good (so they aren't on our plates), but on the other hand can be a bit alarming when they come at you like two did today...we are all fine. Mostly I'm amazed at how they are able to navigate the traffic. Seriously, if the squirrels in Canada had a fraction of the street smarts that Vietnamese dogs had, well we wouldn't have so much road kill. I went out for a walk on my own yesterday morning and started to watch and hustle and bustle of the morning markets and then zoned in on all the dogs. They zoom in and out of scoters, cars, trucks and bikes much better than we do!

Segue into the third thought which is a reflection on riding a bike to a beach yesterday...I had been told that the bigger you are, the more right of way you have. For example, people give right of way to bikes who give right of way to scooters who give right of way to cars etc. Totally counter intuitive compared to our driving and pedestrian culture. So as I was totally cut off by a scooter while riding a bike, I reflected on how the scooter driver might think that foreigners are horrible on bikes.  My reaction in Canada would have been to yell at the scooter driver, whereas I was in the wrong here. Interesting and also a little scary!

Final random thought is that peanut butter in my morning baguette would be delightful...
