Not too much on the agenda today. We rented a scooter and 2 bikes and divided up in shifts. Robin and I started out on the scooter, so we drove out and got gas then met Abby and Beth at An Bang beach, which is about 5km from Hoi An proper.
We headed towards Danang on the empty main road and made our way to the marble mountains about 16km from An Bang. The marble mountains are these relatively small, maybe 200 meters tall features that pop out of the flat surrounding ground that are made mostly out of marble. As a result the place is surrounded by marble carving stores big and small.
The main mountain was better than I expected - steep steps up, then a series of walkways, temples, caves and a nice white marble statue of Buddha.
A couple of hours later and Robin and I arrived back at the beach where it looked like the other two were well settled in. The water was great - you could walk out easily 100 meters and the water was a little cooler and more refreshing than Ha Long Bay which was pretty soupy.
After lunch, Abby and I went zooming around the country side using main roads and back roads. We took a little video to remember what it was like... Sorry about the sound, it was pretty windy:
On the way home Abby and I drove to the Central market and picked up a bunch of fruit as the girls wanted to do a little blog on all the fruit we have seen and tried.
We ate a little local place where we'd had success the night before. We now are in to just walking around and picking little places that are full of locals. We went to the now bustling old town and played a couple of rounds of bingo - Robin continued the tradition of winning and decided to give her lantern to a little Vietnamese boy.
Back at the hotel, we connected with Gram and Banka, who are getting much better at aiming the FaceTime camera at their faces, though with still a little room for improvement - that provides quite a lot of amusement for the girls :-).
