Do something that scares you every day!

So my kids called me out in this phrase which I've been known to throw around. I did not sleep the night before the caving adventure yesterday. I made the mistake of googling the experience, not really knowing what we had signed up for, and stumbled across a blog from a family who travelled around the world for a year (with 4 kids!) and came to this place. The dad described IN DETAIL the events of the tour we were about to go on which incorporated many (not an exhaustive list) things I'm nervous about:

Caves
Zip lining
Heights
Small spaces
Swimming in dark water
Bats
The dark in general
My own shadow?

I was fairly grumpy in the morning which was my nerves playing out...and the kids knew I was nervous. Abby kept saying "Mom, didn't you tell us that we should do something that scares us every day?"
Um I might have, but I also might have been simply reciting the outside of a lulu lemon bag in which case it doesn't count!

By lunch I had worked myself into a bit of a nervous state, but having other people around and seeing the kids excitement I got myself psyched up. I did it all! Ziplining, swinging into the water, trek about 1km into a dark cave, swimming in pitch black water with the lights turned off, squeezing through small spaces in a long line of people to get to the mud bath. I could hear, but did not see any bats. This was good. I was proud of myself.

Cliche to say, but feeling your fears and doing it anyway does feel good. These were not big things. I'm sure I was the ONLY person who was scared and recognize that I'm not the most adventurous person out there but who cares!

Was one of the best days we've had...and we've had many so far!
