Leaving Singapore. Already?!

A wonderful 3 nights and 2 days in Singapore and we are back at the airport already. Sigh. We were all super excited to get here and I think the change of pace was just what we needed. When we originally booked Singapore into the trip, Craig and I were 'meh' on it...we had spent 7 days here in 1997. I've been here on business a couple of times and always enjoyed it but the cultural experience of it all always felt a bit underwhelming. After all,  we were venturing on this journey to give the kids the most opportunity to experience different cultures and bond as a family. Well turns out, we all like our creature comforts and wish we could stay longer. A different kind of feeling from leaving Cambodia. That felt sad. I longed for more of their culture, their people. Leaving Singapore makes me long for brushing my teeth with tap water, salads and Starbucks coffee!

In any event, a great transition from Indochina to the next...Malaysia. We will be staying 29 nights - our longest of any country stays!  Highlight of course is the anticipated arrival of the Versluis family on Monday night. Great friends from home and we can't wait!

Robin has been a bit homesick. She also had a cold so that doesn't help (but had kindly passed it onto me). She mostly misses her room and her bed. And to be honest, so do I. I know those moments are fleeting but there are times when I think that another 4 months is long. Too long perhaps..especially when they are at each other! But then we have a great travel day...sometimes when we least expect it, and I'm rejuvenated again. While I know Abby misses her friends, she told me that she never feels homesick. On the river cruise yesterday, she said to me "I'm having a moment". I knew what she meant. All of a sudden a feeling washes over you and you think how lucky you are to be experiencing the joy of travel. And this bug we have will never die. I will never have the opportunity to do his with my kids again and will continue to focus on "taking it for advantage" as Robin would say!
