We've had 3 very different nature experiences so far and head out tomorrow to Mulu National Park in Sarawak. For those friends and colleagues who work with me in Deloitte Talent, they will remember a meeting we had last November where a guest speaker came and described her crazy ass experience in the jungle of Borneo during the Eco Challenge race. What stood out for me at that particular time was her description of the bugs, bats, leeches, snakes etc in the National Park and in particular her saying "everything is bigger in Borneo". Eek....this is where we are flying to tomorrow!
Yesterday, we went looking for leech socks (despite Craig teasing the you-know-what out of us) but only came across giant fabric things that looked like they were part of a hasmat suit. We didn't purchase and instead will rely on Kim's salt shaker
Having friends with us had helped calm the nerves a bit (mine that is) and, without throwing my good friend Kim under the bus, turns out I AM NORMAL (ish). She too worries about the kids, pays extra attention to safety, hydration, insect repellant and sun. She too is claustrophobic (although not as wimpy on the height thing) and we managed to get ourselves a little freaked out looking at the photos of where we are headed until we realized we were looking at the 'adventure caving' and not the family friendly treks our husbands had booked for us. So, we are heading off with excitement on this new leg of the journey.
Several times over the past few days. I have paused to say "we're in Borneo!"
Stunning scenery, vibrant wildlife and thrilling adventure (for city folk). A dream come true!
