NOT the highlight of the trip so far...

On a flight to Chiang Mai right now after a couple of not so great days in Bangkok. After an incredible week in the Cameron Highlands and me in a full-on zen like state of happiness, the Bangkok bomb brought back the "old" Beth (C.W.O of the Tyndall family). Let me just say that I don't like being the Chief Worry Officer at all, but it is unfortunately a role that I can slip into reasonably quickly. The thoughts of those poor victims and their families have circled through my head for the past 2 days. Perhaps had we not been so close to the explosion site, I may not have obsessed so much. But alas, I am me.

That said, amazing what a news scare will do to bring friends and family to you quickly. We arrived home early from the food tour that wasn't to a dozen messages from friends and family. Team Deloitte responded with her (that's right, I've chosen to categorize Deloitte as a female because I can. Why not?!) usual amazing grace and provided up to date information on security risks and plenty of offers for support should the situation get more serious. There is something incredibly comforting knowing I have a virtual network of support if needed. Nevertheless, we were not in any danger and are but four people in a sea of 14 million. Might have been a good time to explore that meditation app on my iPad but instead, I spent hours combing the Internet for clues or suggestions on our next move. In the end, we had a reasonably decent couple of days trying to guess where safe places would be without going crazy from holing ourselves up in the hotel. Admittedly, my nerves (and therefore my disposition) weren't amazing and the news of the second bomb at a river pier on Tuesday did not help.

With that hopefully behind us, we head to Chiang Mai for an eagerly anticipated portion of the trip. We do have plans to return to Bangkok for two nights on the 26th but will continue to monitor the situation. Today is day 100. I think that is worth celebrating!
