Day 95: Trek #5, 3 and 2

It was our last full day in Cameron Highlands, and it was time for a little more trekking. We set out relatively early as I had no real idea of how long this one would take.

On the way to the start of the trail, we stopped for half and hour and watched a Hindu ceremony. The girls were fascinated with the colours - so beautiful. We eventually discovered that this was an annual celebration (we couldn't figure out for what) that pretty much went all weekend with various festivities.

The hand starting playing - I love the sound of Indian music.... Any Indian music! These guys had a cool arrangement of instruments, with one guy sliding his hand back and forth on a drum-like instrument that provided the droning bass backbeat... Very cool.

The very start of the trail was easy to find, as long as you knew number seven was to the right and number five was in the left!

As we continued up the start of the trail, the path split into three, but some careful reconnaissance led us to the discovery of this microscopic sign pointing us in the right direction....

The first part of the trek was relatively easy going. Then we merged into trail number 3, and the going got tougher, though the complaints were really minimal, which was strangely pleasant. Two thirds of the way through, we merged onto the final Trek, #2. This one became quite challenging - very up and down, quite technical and pretty slippery.

Our "trail finding confidence" was pretty high at this point, after our other successful treks, but we were still challenged sometimes to find the correct path. It did help to have signs like this one to let us know we were going the right way......

Eventually, we made it our destination - a Bhuddist temple not far from the main road in Brinchang. We had been trekking for three hours, and we were all exhausted. For what looked like (on the map) a relatively flat, easier set of trails, it really knocked us a back.

We spent the afternoon back at the hotel. Abby had her unit mid way test to write (over 80% - good work Abby!) and Robin had some reading to do. For dinner, we opted to go back to the Barracks again (third time!). The food was so good. I had the chef special - Curry Bun Grenade. A chicken and potato curry wrapped in wax paper and stuffed in a bread shell and baked for twenty minutes. So good!

The rest of the family did well with their choices. I'm glad everyone loves Indian food, as we have 12 days in Tahiland followed by about 6 or 7 weeks in Sri Lanka, India and Nepal, so we will, have plenty of opportunities for great curries!
