A little boy (child of our hotel owner) just popped by looking for his new friend, Robin. She is so good with the little kids that they are now following her around like the pied piper. She's keen to get her babysitting certificate when we return home! It's beautiful here sitting on a porch and yesterday, I even saw a couple of toucans in the trees! Just like on a box of Froot Loops!
We are loving Sri Lanka so far. The confusing and challenging thing is where to go and how to get there. Public buses and trains are a good, cheap option but we've opted for a couple of trains and a driver to be sure we can sit and stop for toilets when we need to. We also move fast...probably faster than most travellers as we are keen to cover a lot of ground and give the kids as many experiences as possible to whet the appetite for future travelling experiences. So far our pace is comfortable for us, but may be a bit much for others! Craig was hard on himself for basically double doing a portion of a trip, but considering he's planned out 112 other days so far, I think we can all give him a pass on this one! That said, the confusion as to where and what to see on this island has had me over-thinking the itinerary a wee bit. I know right? Shocker. I spent two hours re-doing It yesterday based on absorbing too much advice and looking at weather reports, but after I got the obsession out of my system, we decided to make one small change and stick with Craig's original itinerary and not be slaves to weather forecasts. After all, what we are enjoying most are the people and the food and that is anywhere you go! We are so glad that Brian and Melissa placed this on our itinerary list.
Feels strange that the kids go back to school on Tuesday and we are still here. The girls are excited to find out their classes and get news from friends on the schoolyard chatter. Robin has had a few bouts of homesickness but it never lasts long! They are planning their reunion with the grandparents and aunts/uncles and placing orders for food.
Another lazy start to the day but in this heat, I can't move too quickly. My teen is still sleeping and it's 10am. I've been awake for four hours. Lol. We have a safari this afternoon and hope to spot some wildlife in one of the parks nearby. Tomorrow we head to the hills for some "English weather". Will be a welcome respite from this heat!
