Houseboat thoughts

Sitting on a houseboat in the backwaters of Kerala, India and after 36 hours of GI issues, finally feeling like my old self. Nothing serious, but somewhat ironic that I got sick the day BEFORE heading to India! The houseboat is, shall we say, "rustic". A small step up from the camper trailer we use in sandbanks. It's fine, but when you aren't really feeling well anything less than home or a five star hotel just doesn't cut it. Didn't sleep well at all so woke up a bit grumpy. My super positive husband was pumped about being on a boat for 3 nights and I was, well...not. That said, almost 12 hours later and I reflect on a pretty fun, super chill day. Certainly no pressure to DO anything since we can't, so not a bad place to lay around, get some reading done and cards with the family. A highlight for me today and maybe on this whole trip, was when Robin started rocking it out to some music while we were docked for lunch. I had just finished an assignment her teacher had provided to the parents titled "In a million words or less, what you want me to know about your child". I wrote fewer than a million words, but admittedly several paragraphs. After watching my baby girl completely wig out to Muse, I said to Craig, "maybe we should just send him a video of her". Lol. It was so funny and she was completely relaxed and spontaneous and I can't help but think that if we hadn't had the time to do nothing, I may not have had the opportunity to see that.

Have had some emails from friends this week, with multiple questions asking if I was excited to be nearing the end or would prefer not to think about the trip ending. Truth is, a little of both which I guess is expected. With the start of back to school, back to basketball, my organized planning self is craving some routine. I do miss my life at home...and having highlighted hair, nice clothes, flushing toilet paper vs putting it in the garbage and not having to wear mosquito repellant all the time. However, I do know how special this time is so keep reminding myself daily that I am a lucky kid.

We are also lucky to be returning to some pretty exciting family events with Stephen and Kristine's wedding and a new baby niece or nephew pour moi (from Brian and Melly). Taylor family by two expanding and all four of us are pretty excited about it.

Well, we've just parked for the night next to a rowdy bunch of guys on a houseboat listening to Back Street Boys or New Kids on the Block (I don't know the difference). Here's to hoping their excessive drinking lands them passed out shortly! Our very lovely captain kindly pulled our tarp blinds down so we don't have to see them.
