Instead of eating turkey, we are flying to Turkey!

Happy Thanksgiving Canada. We are missing extended family visits and feasts this weekend! The last two years we have been in Pittsburgh with the Tyndall extended family, enjoying a nice long weekend together and then a drive to Moms for Taylor turkey. Am missing North Park walks and chatting in the kitchen with Jilly!

Currently on board a very empty plane ready to leave Kathmandu for Istanbul with a stop for fuel in New Delhi. Will make a long flight even longer, and we are already 30 min behind rescheduled departure time. The good news is that we appear to have lots of room to spread out! The news of the double bombing in Ankara has me a bit freaked out, even though we are not going near the capital city, we will have 5 days in Istanbul. I'm trying not to think about it, but it's hard! I do feel as though most countries we have visited have had some past or present "worry provoking issue". Turkey has been on my dream list ever since we rescheduled in October 2001 due to concerns around 9/11. We've waited 14 years for this so will try to suppress some of the fear and enjoy the 3 weeks we have.

Nepal was excellent even though Kathmandu was a bit of a shit show due to the fuel shortage. In 1997 I LOVED Kathmandu with it being, at that time, perhaps my favourite city in the world. While it still has some of the same vibe that it had back then, it is much more crowded and polluted. My expectations were low though considering what I had heard from Brian and Dad, and I still enjoyed the time we had there.

Nearly seven weeks in South Asia and we are headed to a totally new experience. Time is passing quickly and while we are all excited for the grandparents reunion at the airport, and seeing friends and family, we are all aware that this exciting journey is coming to an end. At the same time, we have another month to explore which is more than most people take off in a full year!

Sending virtual hugs to everyone and a happy thanksgiving.
