Day 150: Kathmandu

Buddha got us back to Kathmandu today....

The view was super clear, so clear that it looks like the propeller had fallen off the engine here!

We got to our hotel at around 2:00pm, and it was an immediate turnaround outside to walk over to the Thamel area. Thamel is the big tourists area in Kathmandu - I don't know of a place in the world that has a larger, denser tourist specific area consisting of souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels and every kind of service shop you could think of - trekking, courier, phone, massage, airline etc. It was just like 18 years ago, albeit a lot bigger.

With the gas embargo, cyclos are now very much in demand...

It looked like Vietnam Telephone was responsible for the wiring here....

At first, we just wandered. Thamel is a good place to get lost. You can go from a really busy street filled with people, noise and densely packed shops....

...to a quiet little alleyway.

We stopped at a little Mexican place for linner... We were too hungry to stretch it to dinner.

It's crazy how many trekking shops etc are here.... It's Khaosan Road on steroids!

Abby has a very keen eye for Nutella crepe places, so we made an obligatory stop on the way out of Thamel for her crepe.

We had a fairly early night - we got reacquainted with the Walking Dead and hit the hay early. We had asked the helpful guy downstairs to get a car for us for either Saturday or Sunday, and he told us it would be tomorrow so it's going to be a longish day.
