Ecuador Day 7 - To Guayaquil

Transfer day... and we were getting pumped to get to the Galapagos.  The airport was another good spot to continue to trounce Kim and Beth at Euchre... we were leaving Quito on an all time high!

The moment we exited the airport we felt a blast of heat and humidity that kind of reminded us of Miami.  What a difference from the cool, comfortable dry air of Quito.

From this moment, for the next 7 nights, we were under the care of Lindblad Expeditions.   When we were first talking about going to the Galapagos, we all agreed that if we were going to do it, we were going to do it right.  Our interest was learning about the place and experiencing as much as we could.  There are definitely cheaper options, but we thought going with a National Geographic, expedition-type approach was the way to go.  Here's the short review of the whole experience, as it relates to Lindblad themselves - fan-tastic.

We were whisked in a private car to the beautiful Hotel del Parque on the peninsula across from the airport.  It was a colonial building that had been moved there to reside in the "Parque Historico".  We kind of felt like imposters... this beautiful hotel with 12 foot ceilings amazing furnishings was not exactly howe we usually spend our money when travelling.

George (hor-hay) met us in the lobby and gave us a full briefing and made it very clear that if we had an itch that needed scratching, we were to wake him up at any hour to get that taken care of.  Super professional and very nice.

We strode around the grounds of the Parque.

We weren't super keen on venturing out at night - we'd heard Guayaquil is not great for walking around at night so we ended up grabbing dinner in the central courtyard of the hotel.  Despite winning again at cards that night, I was reminded again of my biggest regret of the trip... ALEX!!!

Later that night, we had gotten our bags that were to be forwarded by Lindblad from our hotel room to our ship cabin all prepped up.  Galapagos here we come!
